How to Beat the Bowhead Whale Final Boss in How to Fish

Get the Fish Bucket and prepare the first phase

Dynamite can speed up the five-fish collection, but the scientist's request does not require special species. Save expensive preparation for the two fights rather than over-optimizing the hand-in.

   Catch any five fish and give all five to the scientist at the Volcano Island camp.

   Keep the Fish Bucket bait he returns while you buy and upgrade the assault rifle and sniper rifle.

   Stock healing food and ammunition, then choose open ground away from lava before casting.

   Equip the Fish Bucket and reel the Bowhead Whale onto the island.

Beat the regular Bowhead Whale

The first phase teaches the same movement windows used by the Mutated fight. Treat it as preparation and preserve enough food and ammunition for the second summon.

   Keep moving laterally and watch for the charge instead of firing from a fixed position.

   When the whale jumps, sprint out of the landing area; the body slam can remove most of your health.

3. 3

   Use the assault rifle while moving and switch to controlled sniper shots after a missed charge or slam.

   Heal only after creating distance, then finish the health bar before the escape timer expires.

Carry the whale to the volcano

The regular whale is the bait for the final phase. Keeping both stages together prevents the most common mistake: returning to the scientist too early or abandoning the body after phase one.

   Pick up the defeated Bowhead Whale body instead of turning it in to the scientist.

   Find the wooden plank that marks the climb from the military area.

3. 3

   Follow the path and jump the gaps while carrying the whale to the summit.

   Throw the body into the crater, then descend toward the flatter military area before the Mutated phase reaches you.

Beat the Mutated Bowhead Whale

The Mutated phase adds lava projectiles and pools to the regular charge-and-slam pattern. Staying mobile matters more than holding one perfect firing position.

   Run a broad circle on flat ground and keep clear of existing lava pools.

   Sprint away from the landing marker whenever the whale jumps.

3. 3

   Attack after a charge or body slam finishes, then move before the next lava attack closes the lane.

   Use the assault rifle for mobile damage and the sniper only during clean recovery windows.

   Pick up the Whale Fin and give it to the scientist for the black boat keys.

Failed-attempt checklist

1. 1

   No Fish Bucket: hand five fish to the scientist in the current quest step and clear inventory space.

2. 2

   Cannot start phase two: carry the defeated regular whale to the crater; ordinary fish do not summon the Mutated boss.

3. 3

   Body slam kills you: stop aiming as soon as the whale jumps and sprint fully out of the landing area.

4. 4

   Lava traps the route: move in a wider circle and keep the next lane free instead of doubling back through old pools.

5. 5

   No final keys: return the Whale Fin to the scientist after the Mutated fight.
